Hale Pet Door Updated Pricing and New Product Offering

Replacement Flap Kits will still be available as always

As was previously announced through our dealer mailings, due to continually increasing prices for shipping, tariffs, materials, and labor, we are finally having to increase some of our product prices after 4 years. We have kept as many of our products as possible at the 2016 prices but others have increased between 7-10%.

To make this transition as easy as possible for our dealers we have provided five new price lists on our website on the dealer dashboard. The price lists are available as downloadable pdfs for your use. The five lists are as follows:

  • Retail Door Pricing – the content of this list has also been streamlined and new categories added
  • Retail Replacement Parts Pricing – again more categories have been added to this list to make it easier to find what you are looking for
  • Retail Ramp Pricing
  • Retail Kennel Door Pricing
  • Custom Door Size Pricing

Please visit the info section of the dealer dashboard to read or download these files. Remember you have to be logged in with your dealer account to see the dashboard link.

Replacement Flaps Only will not contain weather stripping or magnets and will be offered at a discounted price

Additionally, we are pleased to announce that due to numerous requests from our customers and our dealers, starting on January 1, 2020, we will be offering a new option when ordering replacement flaps.

When replacing flaps on a pet door, we recommend replacing all the weather stripping and magnets as well to maintain the high quality of the Hale Pet Door. However, at times customers do not want the weather stripping or magnets replaced for various reasons. Hence, many of our dealers have ended up with a small stockpile of magnets and weather stripping and do not need them sent with each order.

Therefore, beginning in 2020, we will offer two options for replacement flaps: Replacement Flap Kits and Replacement Flaps Only. The Flap Kits will continue to be sent out with all the weather stripping and magnets they have always contained while the Flaps Only option will not have the extra parts included.

The kits will be available through the quick order process on the home page and through their own product page on the website. The flaps only option will be available through the Replacement Parts section of the website. The flaps only option is also being offered at a reduced cost to our dealers and customers when compared to the complete flap kit.

We hope these two options will help you better assist your customers going forward and we wish you continued success in all your endeavors as we start a new year together.

Hale Pet Door Launches New Website

new website on PC small

We are very excited to notify you that we have launched a new website.  The URL is the same (halepetdoor.com), but the look is totally new.

We’ve tried to make the website more mobile-friendly and responsive for use with mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets as many of you have told us that you place orders while between jobs.  The site does look different depending on whether you are on desktop or mobile but should hopefully be easy for you to navigate and find what you are looking for.  The information is still there it’s just in a different place.

new website on phone

As you peruse the website there are some pages that have not been updated yet (including the dealer dashboard), so they have the old website look.  We are continuing to roll out changes over the next few weeks so those should be switching over soon.

If you find an issue on the new website, please email info@halepetdoor.com and we will have IT check into it.

new website on tablet

We hope you enjoy our new website and quickly learn the new flow of it.

We also want to let you know that we are updating the information on the site itself so if you could take a look at your dealer listing and let us know if the information is correct or if you would like updates we would appreciate it.  And finally if you are scheduled to attend any tradeshows, home shows, or pet shows this fall or winter or in 2020, please let us know the details and we would love to list it on our website as well.

Hale Pet Door offers new Products

shutterstock_92824054We have some exciting product announcements for our dealers today.

Over the years we have seen the home improvement and pet door industry landscape change greatly. For example, sliding doors used to be mostly made of wood or aluminum – now they are usually vinyl or fiberglass. Screen doors used to always be smooth metal under ½” thick – now they are assorted shapes and many are over ½” thick, etc. To keep up with these changing conditions in customer’s homes and provide solutions for problems our dealers and customers encounter while installing pet doors, we have tried to improve or expand our product line over the years to where we now offer 10 different product models in 12 sizes with countless variations and options available.

To further that philosophy we are adding three new products to our existing line and we are releasing them to our dealers first.

The first product is fiberglass “people” doors. Many customers have beautiful old French doors they don’t want to cut into or an ornate, carved door that they would prefer not to use to install a pet door. In these and similar instances, you can replace the entire people door and install something more conducive to pet door installation. You can order the solid door, with or without a pet door installed. You can also order the door with a window lite in it. The lite can be ordered with or without blinds.

The second scenario we have seen more and more of lately is that our dealers cannot get glass from a local glass company with the cutout in it for pet door installation. We are offering two separate solutions for this.

The first option is to purchase the glass with the cutout directly from Hale and we will ship it to you for installation along with the pet door as usual. This is available in virtually any size and in either double or single pane glass. Pricing and shipping would need to be quoted for each order.

The other option for pet doors in glass doors is an “H” Bar. If you can get glass locally but they can only provide pieces without the cutout, this may be a good option for you. This allows you to order a large piece of glass for the top of the door and a smaller piece for the side of the pet door from the local glass suppliers. Using the “H” bar to connect the two pieces of glass, you can then install a pet door in the window or door as normal. The “H” Bar will come with a comp strip for the top of the pet door.

Please allow 2-3 weeks for the fiberglass door or the piece of glass. “H” bars and their hardware will ship in a similar manner to our screen stabilizer bars.

Please call 800-646-4773 or email info@halepetdoor.com for more information including pricing and shipping quotes.

We look forward to growing and expanding even more with you through these exciting new products.

To your success!

Hale Welcomes Dealers for Training

Nick Skog of Twin Cities Pet Doors, Bill Hale of Hale Pet Door, Corey Doebber of Central MN Pet Doors, Justin Dukes of Hale Pet Door, and Tim Flannigan of Rocky Mountain Dog Guard at a recent dealer training in Canon City, Colorado

Hale Pet Door is proud of our dealer network and their service to our mutual customers and we are always striving to help our dealers grow and be successful. To that end, one of the opportunities we offer is hands on training at our manufacturing facility in Canon City, Colorado. Over the years we have had many dealers come visit us to learn about our pet doors in general, to get some ideas and training for starting a new pet door installation business, and to receive hands on training in many different types of pet door installations including through doors, walls and screens, and especially, in glass installations.

This week, we were happy to host Corey Doebber from Central MN Pet Doors & Solid Results K9, Nick Skog from Twin Cities Pet Doors & Underground Fencing, and Tim Flannigan from Rocky Mountain Dog Guard. Corey and Nick have both been Hale Pet Door dealers since 2016 while Tim is researching adding pet doors to his existing underground fencing business.

While here, they worked with the owner, Bill Hale, and trainer, Justin Dukes, for hands on training with a particular focus on in glass installation since they have quite a bit of experience with other pet door installation types. The training included a tour of the manufacturing facility and information about the production of all our models. We also covered measuring and installation of through the glass pet doors and other types of installs including replacing the people door and complete glass units with the pet door installed. There were lots of questions about our products and they were grateful to have their individual questions answered as well as covering general maintenance tips for all our products.

They were also able to work with the office staff and work on some procedures and technology issues to help their businesses run better. In addition, they were able to go on site with Kevin Zimmerly of Pikes Peak Pet Doors to view an in glass installation in a real life situation at a customer’s house.

All of this will help them better serve their customers and will help them reach their goal of becoming “certified” Hale Pet Door dealers and installers. What does that mean and what could it mean for you?

All dealers enter our network at the “authorized” level by signing some paperwork and taking some informational tests. They are listed on our website as an authorized dealer and customers can reach them through the information on our Hale’s website.

Being a “certified” dealer gives you a leg up on authorized dealers. You will be listed in a different section of the dealer list for your area above all the authorized dealers with a special icon denoting your status. We also provide you with a different logo that you can use on your advertising and marketing materials indicating that you are a certified dealer. This promotion actually helps you get more calls from customers in your area above those dealers who are simply “authorized”. Additionally, if desired, we can provide an optional website, email, and phone number for your business as a certified dealer.

By inviting our dealers to visit us and learn about our systems, our products and our installation, we hope we are helping send dealers out with the tools and knowledge needed to be more successful. We are very pleased to show any of our dealers just what we are about and why we have such a high level of pride in Hale Pet Door, our products, and our customer service.

So no matter what level of dealer you are in our program, we want to help you with what your needs are. If that involves hands on training for pet door installation, consider coming to visit us in Colorado and get the personalized attention and assistance you need. (And just a side note, while the rest of the country is in a polar vortex deep freeze, it is 50 degrees here, so you can come enjoy our wonderful weather and beautiful mountain scenery while you are here.)

New Shopping Cart is Phase One of Our New Site

shutterstock_245683630We wanted to let you know that we are in the process of completely upgrading our website with some exciting new changes.  The first big change is the upgrades to the shopping cart on our website.

The appearance and flow are a little different but overall it is much cleaner and easier to use, especially on mobile devices such as tablets and phones which more and more of our dealers are using.

Some things to remember:

The shipping address now comes before the billing address.  Please verify that your default billing and shipping addresses are correct so the order entry will be easier going forward.  You can do this by clicking on the “manage addresses” link at the top of the page “My Account” when you are logged in.

The phone number on the shipping page can now be edited for each order without affecting the account phone number. If you’re ordering for a customer and would like to enter their phone number here in case we or FedEx need to contact them, feel free to do so.

The Dealer Discount has been abbreviated to DDxx, so that your customers do not see the discount percentage on the packing slip.

Please feel free to call or email us at info@halepetdoor.com if there are any questions or if you have any issues with our new shopping cart or any aspect of our website including the dealer dashboard.

Don’t Look Now But We Have A Holiday Gift For You

shutterstock_533821159At Hale Pet Door, we greatly appreciate our dealers and realize all you do to help make our business a success.  We couldn’t do it without you.

Therefore, as a token of our gratitude, we are offering FREE SHIPPING to our dealers this December.  Normally our discounts cannot be combined but this discount will be in addition to your regular dealer discount.

This offer only applies to GROUND shipping and is only valid in the 48 contiguous states.  And unfortunately, due to the size and variety of packages, we are not able to include ramps or security barriers in this offer.  However, panels and window models are included which is an incredible value, especially on our oversize models.  So if you have a customer who has been trying to decide whether or not to purchase, this may be the added incentive they need.

Again, we thank you for all you do and are looking forward to working with you for many more years.

Sincerely,

The Management and Staff of Hale Pet Door

Join Hale Pet Door to Help Others this Giving Tuesday

giving tuesday 2018Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 and is a global day of giving. Celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it kicks off the holiday season by giving back – to your community, to charities – by volunteering, gifting or donating money. Created to combat commercialism and powered by social media and your collaboration.

Hale Pet Door takes our charity work seriously and makes donations every week to pet rescues around the country.  We have also participated in Giving Tuesday in the past and are happy to do so again this year.  With so many natural disasters around the country and around the world, we decided to focus our donations this year on helping those affected.

Therefore, this coming Giving Tuesday, November 27, 2018, Hale Pet Door will be donating 10% of our net sales to the Humane Society of Ventura County and the North Valley Animal Disaster Group to assist them as they help those affected by the horrible wildfires burning in California right now.

You can help by making any purchase on our website that day knowing that 10% of your purchase is going to those in need.   This is in addition to any discount you are already entitled to.  So if you have been waiting to place a stock order or know that you have some customers coming up who are thinking about a new pet door, place your order on Tuesday, November 27, to help add to the total donation we make.  Together we can make a difference. #givingTuesday #HaleGives #HalePetDoorGives #GivingTuesday2018

Hale Pet Door Wins The Glass Guru Vendor of the Year

2018-02-02 10.51.30Hale Pet Door is proud to partner with many dealers across the country to provide quality, professional installation of our pet doors for our customers.  One of these dealers is The Glass Guru of Colorado Springs.  This morning we were honored to host the owners Eric and Sarah Helus and their office staff and installation crew on a tour of our factory, offices, and showroom in Canon City, Colorado.

During their visit they learned about how we manufacture the pet doors as well as learning about home shows, installations, customer service, and other aspects of the pet door business.

We were pleasantly surprised after the tour was over to learn that we had been chosen as their 2017 Vendor of Year.  Eric presented Bill Hale with a beautiful award to commemorate the occasion.

Thank you Eric and Sarah and all your staff for a wonderful morning and such a fine honor.

Measuring the Customer’s Dog

74942912 - border of dogs arranged in order of heightWe thought it was a good time to remind you that the beginning of a good install job starts with the dog(s). Bill regularly reminds customer service that we always need to start with the dog. Many people start with the location instead of their pets, causing them and you frustration when the location does not allow adequate space.

Customer service recently had a call from a customer that had a Bernese Mountain dog that had been using a Tall Medium size pet door for years and now wanted to get a larger size. Yes, her dog was older and having issues and not making it through the pet door very easily anymore. But it had gone through it just fine for years. We all cringed and felt for the dog.

At the same time customer service is overjoyed when a customer calls and wants to order a more than large enough pet door for their dog, so they are comfortable going through it.

In starting with the dog, you need their width. This is the widest point on the dog, usually the shoulders. Add 1-2 inches for safety and clearance. If the dog does not like the tape measure, open a door just wide enough for the dog to go through. Again add 1-2 inches to the measurement.

Next, you will need their height. Measure the dog from the floor to their withers (top of the shoulders). If they won’t stand still for the tape measure, stand next to them and mark the height on your leg. Add 1-2 inches to this measurement also. Keep in mind if the customer has more than 1 dog, you may need to make accommodations for all with a taller pet door. This allows the pet door to be installed lower for the short guys, but the tall guys still have clearance height in the pet door.

If you have to install the pet door higher off the floor, due to a tall baseboard, etc., let the customer know that for their dog they may need a step/ramp to make it easier for their dogs to use. If the customer has never had a pet door, they probably haven’t thought about it and are grateful for the advice.

Remember, you have knowledge, experience and training that gives you a unique perspective. Use it to advise customers wisely. Remember also, you are their dog’s advocate.

To Your Success!
